Our Grade 1 students welcomed the residents from St. Matrona Retirement Home to ISD for a beautiful morning of conversation, connection, and wisdom-sharing. As part of their inquiry into peace and relationships, students prepared thoughtful interview questions for our special guests and the residents responded with heartfelt insights drawn from a lifetime of experience.
One student asked, “What should I do to keep peace in my classroom?” The room grew quiet as a resident replied, “Listen to everyone’s opinions before making a choice, and keep an open mind.” It was a perfect reflection of the IB Learner Profile in action, showing our young learners that peace begins with perspective taking and empathy.
The advice continued to flow: “Never go to bed angry.”
“When someone isn’t kind, be even kinder; they are probably struggling.”
“If there’s a problem, talk about it sooner rather than later.”
These simple yet powerful messages resonated deeply with our students, offering them timeless tools for building strong relationships both inside and outside the classroom. The morning was not only thought provoking but also a beautiful example of intergenerational learning, reminding us that peace grows when we listen, connect, and learn from one another.
