ISD empowers individuals and communities to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships, grounded in the principle that humans are an interdependent part of nature.
At the International School of Debrecen, service learning and sustainability are not just subjects, they are a mindset, a mission, and a way of learning. Rooted in global best practices and guided by a commitment to shaping purposeful, compassionate leaders, our program empowers students to take meaningful action in their communities and beyond.
From the early years through secondary school, students engage in real-world projects that cultivate empathy, responsibility, and a deep understanding of their role in creating a better future. With dedicated faculty leading initiatives, our service learning program is evolving into a vibrant, student-led movement that reflects our mission in action.

IB learner profiles
Last year alone, over 300 students engaged in service learning connected over 20 units. From hosting clean-up drives and growing vegetables in our school garden to building partnerships with local schools and retirement homes, ISD students demonstrated that learning has the power to transform both hearts and communities.
Service learning thrives through collaboration between students, teachers, families, and our wider community. We invite our parents to support these efforts by celebrating student initiatives, joining schoolwide service events, and continuing conversations about compassion, sustainability, and social responsibility at home. Together, we can empower every ISD student to be a caring, curious, creative changemaker.
