Rosie (ES Assistant Principal) & Jesús (Music Teacher)

Our family moved here from Mexico City in August 2019. We were here when the last of the building work finished on the new school building and when the doors were opened to students for the first time. We opened with 4 international teachers and 63 students. In the last 4 years it has been such an exciting journey to watch the school grow. The most exciting part for us has been seeing the community grow and develop year by year. Our daughter, Isela went through Kindergarten 1 and 2 here at ISD and is currently in Kindergarten 3. We are excited for the time when our little boy, Tobi will also join the ISD family. We love spending our time in the forest and parks around Debrecen. We love how the city opens up during the summer months and comes alive with festivals and music. The playgrounds and swimming pools are great and the city feels so safe. We visit Budapest for weekend trips and love to travel further afield too. We have visited Spain, Italy, Ireland, England, Scotland, Romania, Austria, Germany, France and Cyprus since living here!
Rosie is currently the PYP Coordinator. Jesús teaches music to grades 3 – 10.

Heather (Science Teacher)

I am originally from the Southeastern United States, Georgia. Just before working in Debrecen, I was living and working in Saudi Arabia for a few years but the change has been very welcome as I embrace the cooler temperatures, green spaces, and distinct seasons.

I enjoy working at ISD because I have a really positive connection with my colleagues. I feel that we actively try to support each other and find ways to improve together. I enjoy living in Debrecen because it is a quiet place with great connections to other areas of Europe. I love the sunny days and walks in the park and all the events that go on in town.

Loránd (DP Coordinator / NEASC Accreditation Coordinator / TOK and History Teacher)

I truly value concept-based pedagogical programs like the IB Continuum, which progress from play-based to project-based and culminate in research-based approaches. When I discovered that ISD aimed to become Hungary’s first IB Continuum school, I was immediately drawn to this unique initiative. Working collaboratively with fellow faculty members to achieve our goals is one of my favorite aspects of this school. ISD is an ideal place for teachers to join, as it prioritizes learner-centered education, where students explore, inquire, take ownership of their learning, and apply it to real-life situations.

I decided to join ISD because of its alignment with the IB mission and educational philosophy, which embraces reflection and empathy. Also, I was attracted to the school because of its cultural diversity and the possibilities it offers for personal and professional growth. At ISD, I am involved in continuous professional development through a structured pathway of discussions, collaborative meetings, and learning experiences with other teachers. Working collaboratively with other educators from different backgrounds and countries has contributed to my global awareness. Certainly, ISD will demand a lot of passion and effort from you as a teacher. Nevertheless, you will find a wonderful ISD team to support you, listen to you, make you laugh, and cry with you, if it is necessary.
