Student Council (StuCo)

As members of the student council, our mission is to make a difference. We actively represent the student body, collaborate on initiatives, engage and empower our fellow students, foster positive change within our school community, and seek collaborations beyond our campus. By listening to our peers, working together, and implementing impactful initiatives, we believe we can create a meaningful and lasting impact on our school. Together, we strive to create an inclusive and thriving environment that supports the growth and well-being of every student.

StuCo in the middle school and high school consists of two duly elected representatives from each grade. The StuCoLeadership Team consists of a president, vice president, and treasurer. The leadership team leads members of the council in the spirit of unity and cooperation and is responsible for representing the student council in the school community.

All parents are members of the PAC but are represented by one parent from each grade level. The PSO provides leadership. PAC meetings take place on the first Monday of each month. Active participation is encouraged!

After School Activities

After School Activities or “ASAs” as they are affectionately known by our students are a highlight in many students’ day. Our broad and ample provision offers something for everyone allowing students to explore their passions, learn new skills, meet new friends across the Grades and the different sections of the school and most importantly have fun!

ISD’s educational philosophy extends beyond the classroom, emphasizing the integration and enhancement of after-school activities. These endeavors go beyond mere enrichment; they’re intrinsic to ISD’s holistic approach to education. With a curriculum shaped by the IB’s principles, ISD offers more than just rigorous academics. It provides a platform for students to explore, experience, and evolve beyond the classroom.

A Glimpse into
ISD’s After School Activities

  • Arts & Creativity: Among the varied artistic opportunities at ISD, students can partake in drumming sessions, engage in therapeutic diamond painting, embark on beginner guitar lessons, or explore numerous other artistic mediums.
  • Physical Activities & Sports: Just a few of the athletic options include an open-to-all running club, gymnastics classes for varying skill levels, football training sessions, Modern Dance lessons, adult yoga classes, and a unique Jazz Dance & Ballet fusion program.
  • Academic & Skill-based Clubs: Highlighting some of the academic enrichments, there’s the Math Club with its captivating topics, the Student Council offering a voice in school operations, a dive into the technological realm of 3D design and printing, and a board games club with games apt for all age brackets.
  • Global Awareness: A standout in global education, the Model United Nations (MUN) program, serves as a platform for students to delve deep into global issues. Here, they get to interact with peers both locally and from other countries, gaining a nuanced perspective on diplomacy and international challenges.

Library

Our libraries at ISD “support all learners’ and teachers’ progress towards becoming better inquirers, consumers and creators of information” (IBO.org, 2018) as well as empowering innovation and inspiring positive action, to affect the world that surrounds them. We do this by empowering ISD students to develop their love of reading and cultivating the skills required to effect change in our communities. ISD has two libraries, the PYP Library and the MY/DP Library.

PYP Library
The PYP Library is an integral part of ISD students’ learning experience within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and a comfortable and inviting space, with a growing resource collection dedicated to our younger students and to the support of the PYP curriculum. Most titles are in English, with a selection in Hungarian.
All classes in the PYP have two weekly Library lessons run by the PYP Librarian, one of which students can exchange their library books. During Library lessons, students are taught information literacy, as well as digital literacy, since the PYP Librarian is also the PYP Tech Integrator.
In order to support students’ love of reading, promote reading for pleasure and provide a safe space for students to enjoy their breaks, the PYP Library is open to ISD students at lunchtimes, three times a week.

MYP/DP Library
The secondary school has one large library space, for the use of IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) students, which has age appropriate workspace furniture and close to 6000 printed and online books, and journals. Class teachers can use this facility as needed to nurture independent reading, love of books and the delivery of units in every class. Secondary School students are provided with access to EBSCO Middle Search Plus, EBSCO MAS Complete and JSTOR Secondary Schools Collection. In addition, students are able to use Turnitin Feedback Studio to support them in regards to their research and writing process. The Secondary School Library has a Head and an Assistant Librarian, who serve student needs and guide them when necessary. Digital and physical books and resources are available to support the MYP and the DP: students are supported by the library when researching for their MYP subject-specific, service as action and personal projects and similarly for their DP course-specific assignments, internal assessments and extended essay. The MYP/DP Library is here to support your needs!
