Kindergarten School

Children will become confident individuals who build positive relationships and a sense of belonging to our international community. They will develop a love for learning, a desire to communicate, and a sense of their own identity as learners.

Kindergarten at ISD welcomes students from 3-5 years of age. We have blended the IB continuum of international education and Reggio Emilia philosophy to create a child-centered, constructivist, and inquiry-based approach that responds to our children’s academic and developmental needs. Making connections builds social and cognitive skills. Positive social connections lay the foundation for healthy relationships and lifelong wellness.

Learning in the Kindergarten

Young children love asking questions. They naturally learn through inquiry. Through the process of inquiry, children learn to observe, ask questions, research, think critically to conclude their findings, and communicate their new understandings. Empowering students allows them to take ownership of their learning and leads to engagement and meaningful purposes.

The Role of Play

Play is a powerful tool for learning, engagement, and growth. It is a way for children to learn, therefore, both purposeful and free play is an integral part of our everyday life in kindergarten. The IB outlines that the learning community values kindergarten as a time in which play is the primary driver for inquiry. The following features are central to learning in the early years: play, relationships, learning spaces, symbolic exploration, and expression.
