Our Grade 3 students turned their learning into action this week as they hosted a vibrant, schoolwide Clothing Swap, an event that blended sustainability, creativity, and community spirit. As part of their unit on how we use and care for natural resources, students explored the true cost of everyday items and discovered the environmental impact of making, buying, and disposing of clothing. With this knowledge, they were determined to find a way to reduce waste and help others in the process.
Inspired and empowered, the students designed posters, spread the word across campus, and organized a Clothing Swap inviting every grade level to “shop” for gently used items. The excitement was contagious as students eagerly browsed, selected new-to-them outfits, and learned firsthand how reusing and donating clothing helps conserve resources and reduce waste. The event became a joyful celebration of sustainability, with students proudly taking part in a circular economy they created themselves.
The impact didn’t stop there. Every piece of clothing that was not selected by students was donated to the Roma community, ensuring these items continued their journey where they are needed most. Through this meaningful project, Grade 3 not only deepened their understanding of environmental stewardship but also demonstrated how small actions, led by young changemakers, can make a big difference in our community.
