Celebrating the First TEDxISD Youth Event

Empower and Inspire!
  • How can embracing empathy and understanding transform your toughest negotiations into win-win outcomes?
  • How can we change the stereotypes that limit female athletes in sports?
  • How do YOUR unique traits create harmony in your community?
Take a moment to reflect on these questions…
Yes, these ideas are worth spreading!
True to the TEDx credo, these were the themes shared by our amazing speakers at the first TEDxISD Youth event, organized by our dedicated Grade 12 students on the 14th September! This thought-provoking journey was centered around the theme “Existing Together”.
Semih Ersöz, founder of Sopu Academy talked about “The Art of Winning Together”, Dóra Bereczki, ISD student held an inspirational speech titled “Breaking Barriers: Paving the Way for Women in Sports” and finally Somin Jung, American International School of Budapest student, started a reflection on the theme “Harmony in Isolation: The Musical Journey to Individuality and Community”.
This event, featuring engaging activities that encouraged audience participation, highlighted our students’ creativity and commitment to fostering meaningful conversations and professionalism, setting a high standard.

TEDx ISD Youth 2024

The overarching theme for the day is “Existing Together.” To delve into this concept from various perspectives, we have invited three speakers who will share their unique life experiences and the invaluable lessons they’ve learned along their journeys.

The TEDx ISD Youth event exemplifies how the ISD and the IB program prepare students to take on leadership roles in shaping the future. ISD’s mission-driven focus on empowering innovation and inspiring positive action, combined with the IB’s emphasis on inquiry, global understanding, and creativity, equips students with the confidence and skills to thrive. Through months of preparation, students honed their ability to communicate, collaborate, and think critically. This event celebrated their capacity to inspire change both locally and globally, proving that education can be a catalyst for meaningful impact–which is the heart of what we aspire to do here at ISD.

Dora Bereczki

She stands out not only as an exemplary learner but also as a youth Olympic champion in ice hockey. Dora will recount her story as an olympic athlete, highlighting the highs and lows she encountered while training for this special event. Her speech asks important questions about her perceived role in her sport as a girl while mentioning the limitations on her ability to dream a career in this sport. But what helped her turn the initial push from the community to one of the strongest pulls? Her talk will have you consider your choices as a sports consumer through the perspective of an athlete.

Somin Jung

Somin Jung is an international senior student at AISB Budapest with a strong commitment to fostering lasting change. Wanting to combine the principles of art with engineering, Somin plans to incorporate her passion for music into her speech. She will draw parallels between the structure of music and our communities, reflecting on harmony and chaos of the society. Her comparisons will offer a unique perspective on how individual contributions lead to unity and melody.

Semih Ersöz

Semih Ersöz, the founder of SOPU Academy, is a Turkish-born trainer and an educator at Aalto University. Through his academy, he has successfully equipped students with the skills and confidence needed to tackle future challenges using a “win-win” approach. He will touch upon the interpretation of business skills, specifically negotiation, within one’s daily life in order to build a healthier community.

Parent School Organization

The Parent School Organization (PSO) is a dynamic and collaborative team that seeks to support all members of the school community toward the realization of the school’s mission.

The Parent Voice of ISD:

  • Supports the development of positive relationships among all ISD stakeholders
  • Supports effective and respectful communication within the ISD community

  • Supports onboarding of new families
  • Organizes social activities/events and fundraising initiatives that enrich and enhance the experience of ISD community members
  • Cooperates with local communities and charities to provide students with meaningful experiences that expand global understanding
  • Strives to involve and empower parents in appropriate ways

Leadership consists of duly elected parent officers including president, vice president, treasurer, and PR coordinator. The divisional principals and teacher leaders participate in the meetings in an advisory role.

The purpose of the PSO is to provide a forum for parents to coordinate feedback and promote active participation in the work of the parents. Active participation is encouraged!
