Biography

Jacqueline is an English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher supporting students in middle school science. She helps students develop the academic language skills they need to succeed in science and across the curriculum. She is passionate about learning languages and she believes the best way to do this is through intentional and meaningful interactions and practice.

She believes students should be encouraged to engage in thoughtful discussions, structured writing, and collaborative learning experiences that build both linguistic accuracy and critical thinking skills.

Best Teaching Moment

Once, a student told me that she remembered our lessons about coherence and structure during the essay part of the TOEFL test. She thanked me for helping her improve her writing and shared that she got an excellent score. Moments like that remind me that the skills we practice every day can stay with students long after they have left the classroom. And for me, that is what makes teaching so rewarding.

Lab Technician

Shamae Delima

I am Shamae Ria Delima from the Philippines. I finished my bachelors with the degree BSc in Fisheries from Davao Del Norte State College in my country and have finished the degree MSc in Hydrobiology here in Hungary. I’ve always been fascinated with science, especially laboratory experiments. I am very elated to work with ISD as a Science Technician, letting me gain more experience in laboratory management, experiment and research.
I once worked at Davao Del Norte State College, as an administrative assistant for 2 yrs. before coming to Hungary. I was aiding the program chairpersons of BSc Food Technology, Fisheries, Marine Biology, and Forestry in running the different programs, making sure that all academic and program requirements are up to standards required by accreditation institutions.
IB curriculum is completely different as to what I have first encountered and worked with, but it has really impressed me so much. With this kind of learning, I believe kids can explore, create, discover, and develop themselves through the guidance of their respective teachers to become responsible, confident, and successful adults in the future. IB teaching methods do not just teach students the theories of different academic subjects, they are also teaching them on how to apply these theories in real life situations, helping the students develop critical thinking skills, practical, emotional, and physical skills.

I previously served as Coordinator of the Mother Tongue programme and later as Language and Literature Coordinator, and I currently hold the role of Coordinator of Language Studies. I hold a degree in Hungarian language and literature and a PhD in modern linguistics, and I am also qualified in ethnography, homeland/social studies teaching, and museology. My earlier research focused on theoretical questions in modern comparative linguistics, particularly the structural characteristics of language and naming patterns, and I am the author of 30 academic publications and reviews as well as one book.
I am passionate about fostering student agency, interdisciplinary thinking, and reflective learning in line with the IB philosophy. I strive to create an energetic, supportive, and engaging classroom environment where students can explore literature, language, and multiple ways of understanding the world. I find the greatest joy in teaching when students develop genuine curiosity and a personal connection to the topics they study.
Best Teaching Moment
One of my most meaningful teaching experiences at ISD began with a Personal Growth Plan focused on developing students’ growth mindset, positive attitude, and reflective thinking through shared reading and developing portfolios. Since then, this approach has remained an essential part of my teaching practice. Students are free to choose novels that match their interests, support one another through literature circles, and document their learning in thoughtful portfolios. During deeper analytical work in literature circles, there is nothing more rewarding than the moment when students independently uncover hidden meanings in a text and experience an authentic “aha” realization. Seeing students discover that they enjoy reading, engage with literature willingly, and grow in confidence as readers are the moments that make teaching truly meaningful for me.

She believes that tradition and innovation reinforce each other in value-based, internationally oriented pedagogical work.

Best Teaching Moment
One of the most defining moments in my teaching career was when one of my students—with great confidence—showed me something they had written, which almost no one had read before. It was a poem that had only been seen by his parents or the silence of his desk drawer. The fact that he asked for my opinion was not only a professional moment for me, but also a deeply human one: a sign that I had succeeded in creating an atmosphere in the classroom where students dared to share their personal thoughts and creations.

Best Teaching Moment
“The most rewarding part of my work is watching a student who initially lacks an interest in the arts slowly begin to embrace their own creativity. Seeing that hesitation turn into genuine enjoyment as they discover a natural ability they didn’t know they possessed is truly why I teach.”

Biography

I am originally from the Philippines, and most of my international teaching experience has been in Indonesia. Over the past 17 years, I have taught in international schools, gaining extensive experience with the Singapore Math curriculum, the Cambridge curriculum, Understanding by Design, and the IB MYP framework. As a MYP Mathematics teacher, I strive to bring mathematics to life through inquiry, authentic assessment, and interdisciplinary approaches. I aim to help students become open-minded, reflective, and globally aware learners. Through my teaching, I hope to inspire more students to appreciate mathematics and recognize its relevance in the real world.

Best Teaching Moment
One of my most meaningful teaching moments was when a student said, “I never thought math could be useful in real life.” That comment reminded me why I work to make math relevant and connected to real experiences. It showed me that learning had moved beyond memorizing steps to actually understanding and using ideas in meaningful ways.

In the Central European context, it is always challenging how to build on the creative contingency of the present. Therefore, I am fascinated by working together with colleagues to reconceive the boundaries of cultures in a hope to open up possible futures that will best deliver education and social justice.
My journey to become a teacher is not a conventional professional trajectory.I have received my MA in biology and phylosophy, which urged me to continue my studies in sociology, which in turn led to my PhD in educational research. Lately, recognizing the power of stories in our life my attention has been turned to literature and finished English literature and lingusitics at KULeuven, Belgium.
My career to date has been characterized by working in a national framework in the context of elementary, secondary and higher education and a determination to engage in transnational academic dialogues at three universities. The latter I see as an essential element in my formation as a teacher, educational researcher and above all a creative, critical thinker myself.

He values strong relationships with students and believes that meaningful learning happens when they feel supported, challenged, and genuinely engaged.
Best Teaching Moment
“I love it when students come back to me and say, ‘I remember you taught us about this!’ because I know something from the classroom has suddenly connected with a real moment in their lives. Knowing that they can learn, laugh, feel supported, and carry something from my classroom with them reminds me why I teach.”
