After finishing college, I moved to England thanks to the Comenius Fellowship. I was a teacher assistant in a primary school and nursery of the city called Newcastle upon Tyne for 3 years.
When I came back to Hungary, I started to work in Budapest. I taught in two different private schools when I intermitted my working days because of my son’s birth.
I was happy to join the team of International School of Debrecen because their teaching system is very familiar to me. As I am getting to know the IB PYP program, I feel that the children who have the chance to learn in this system are very lucky. During my work in this school the main goal for me is to give the best of my personality helping these kids learn and develop emotionally and socially.
I am not a scientist, but I want to show most of the world to the kids. I do not know which road leads to the heart of certain kids, but I believe that every path can be found with love and patience.
In my free time I love to be with my family, going on trips. I am interested in zero waste products – to design and sew, but also love to read books with a cup of coffee.

Kindergarten Teacher (2016) @ University of Debrecen
My name is Tamás Botrágyi, but everyone knows me as Mr. Boti.I was born and raised in Debrecen, but my journey in education has also taken me to the United States, where I lived for 1.5 years. Following my graduation, I worked on early years projects in England, Turkey and Romania, which gave me wonderful opportunities to learn about different cultures and approaches to teaching. These experiences continue to inspire the way I connect with and support my students every day. I have been part of ISD since it first opened, and for the past four years I have been working with this age group. I am passionate about teaching within the IB Early Years Programme in the PYP, as it offers a comprehensive learning experience that empowers children to take ownership of their learning. I am especially inspired by the programme’s emphasis on holistic development and student agency, as I believe this approach nurtures a lifelong love of learning. Seeing their curiosity and confidence grow is one of the best parts of my job.
Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, staying active, and spending quality time with my wife and our beautiful daughter.

I have enjoyed settling into international life, having lived in Colombia, the U.S., Mexico, and China, where I had the privilege to work in bilingual, American, language immersion, and IB schools. I am passionate about learning new cultures and dedicated to transforming the class into a reciprocal learning environment.
In my spare time, I like dancing (I am a licensed Zumba instructor), trying new things, traveling, exploring, watching anime and learning Korean.

Melinda Csiki
Job Position
Master’s Degree in Mathematics, University of Miskolc
Melinda Csiki is a Primary Years Programme (PYP) Hungarian Language and Literature teacher at ISD, working with students from Grade 1 to Grade 5. She brings together a strong foundation in communication and mathematics, combining conceptual thinking with a deep understanding of language development. With experience in both national and international educational contexts, Melinda is committed to inquiry-based learning and the development of student agency. In her classroom, language is not only a subject but a powerful tool for thinking, identity-building, and meaningful connection. She supports students in becoming reflective communicators who are confident in expressing their ideas and engaging in dialogue.
Melinda believes that curiosity, creativity, and care are essential qualities in young learners. Through concept-driven learning experiences, she encourages students to ask questions, explore perspectives, and take responsible action within their communities. She is dedicated to continuous professional growth and values collaboration within the IB learning community to foster innovative and student-centered practices.
In 2024, I joined the International School of Debrecen (ISD) as an assistant teacher. Since then, I have enjoyed contributing to a diverse, student-centered learning environment. I am passionate about fostering critical thinking, empathy, and social awareness in my students. My background in humanities and experience across grade levels allow me to adapt to different educational needs and support learners effectively.
I received my undergraduate degree in History from a small school in North Carolina, Queens University of Charlotte. I also received my teacher certification here. My first teaching job was at a public elementary school in Charlotte, North Carolina teaching grade 4. Since then I have taught grades 3-5 in the United States (Rhode Island, Maryland, and North Carolina), Saudi Arabia and China. While in China I obtained my graduate degree in education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
There are many aspects of the IB philosophy that resonate with me personally and professionally. Academic and social-emotional growth occurs when learners feel safe to be themselves. The PYP requires learners to be supportive, encouraging and active members of the classroom, school and larger communities. Growth also occurs when learners are engaged in the learning process. The PYP allows learners to authentically engage in the concepts. By fostering agency, learners can seek answers to their own inquiries and develop the means to share their knowledge with others.

Name

My mum is also a teacher, seeing her work is where I got my passion for teaching as well. I would like to find the best ways to support children and help them to grow on their own way with this new method of education. Singing has also been a passion of mine. Therefore, I naturally enjoy teaching my pupils all the songs I know, or hear about from them, and sing together. I also want them to spend as much time as we can outdoors, exploring new things and take long walks in the forest nearby. I strive to encourage them to create, design and build something new all the time. I enjoy the time I spend in the early years class and I’d like to learn more about the development of this age group and create a safe environment for their benefit.

I have two Master Degrees in Education and MBA which demonstrates my commitment to lifelong learning.
Before joining wonderful and vibrant ISD family, I had amazing experience of working with students from different IB schools, including:
- Pechersk School International, Kyiv
- American International School of Budapest
- St.John`s International School, Belgium
- British International School, Bratislava.
The International Baccalaureate curriculum is a unique tool which enables teachers to join students on the personalized fascinating journey of discovery, reflection and action, which is motivated by their passions and interests. The teachers use various IB tools to empower limitless learning, collaboration to build the students` knowledge, skills and understanding in academics, arts, athletics, and service. IB focuses on the well-being of students and the wider global community.
I love working with children. They give so much, and I can see them growing every day. I love laughing and playing with them. It's a lot of fun! I'm excited to work at ISD this year and to continue working in an English-speaking environment.

Szilvia Nagy-Domokos
KG Assistant Teacher
Bachelor’s degree in Kindergarten Education (Art major) at the ELTE University , Budapest
In 2004, she moved to Ireland, where she worked as an Early Childhood Educator and Art Facilitator in Dublin. Her deep interest in creative development led her to facilitate Art Therapy sessions for individuals living with dementia and mental health challenges.
Since returning to Hungary in 2019, Szilvia has been a valued member of the International School of Debrecen. Now in her fourth year, she works as an Assistant Kindergarten Teacher and Atelierist.
She strongly believes in the Reggio Emilia approach, where children’s rights are respected and they are given meaningful opportunities to develop their full potential. She views children as “knowledge bearers,” encouraging them to share their ideas, thoughts, and discoveries throughout their daily experiences. Through individualized, inquiry-based learning, art, and free play, she supports each child’s unique strengths and growth.
Equally meaningful are the tender moments at the beginning of the kindergarten year, when saying goodbye to their mothers feels overwhelming. Being able to provide comfort, safety, and reassurance — and seeing children gradually feel secure and happy in the classroom — is deeply rewarding.
I treasure the conversations that emerge when children express their feelings through art. When they begin to describe their thoughts, emotions, and ideas, I am reminded that they are capable communicators and “knowledge bearers.”
I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Elementary Education and Spanish Teaching and a master’s degree in Education specializing in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas. I have taught from 3rd to 12th grade in the United States, Nigeria, and Bangladesh. I fully believe in the power of the PYP programme, and I have a passion for serving others and leading a sustainable life. In my class, we build connections, take risks, complete personal inquiries, foster appreciation of others, and take action in our community.
While in Nigeria, my students used their inquiry skills to design and construct a tire playground for a local school. In Bangladesh, my students inquired into various social organizations that promoted social justice and partnered with them to create infographics and advertise in our community. Completing personal inquiries and taking action are very important parts of the PYP experience, and I am excited for my students to have the opportunity to take action in our community here in Debrecen and become life-long change-makers.

After gathering many years of teaching experience in public and private education both in the UK and in Hungary, I am delighted to join the ISD team of the most dedicated and enthusiastic teachers and principals I have ever met. In this wonderfully unique school we have the opportunity to create something truly outstanding and valuable through collaboration, open communication, inspiration from colleagues and students, too. I believe that in these surroundings and with such professional attitude from the staff, the focus from our students and their emotional, mental and educational needs will never be shifted, which will always be our priority.

Tamari Bende
G2 Assistant Teacher
Master’s Degree in English Studies from the University of Debrecen, Hungary
I have previously taught at international schools in Seoul, Korea, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I also gained valuable experience teaching at an independent school in British Columbia, Canada.
My passion lies in supporting students who struggle with learning in English or need additional learning support. I believe that every teacher is a hero or heroine - working tirelessly to uplift their students and empower them to soar like eagles. Teachers are the miracle performers; we are the conquerors who help our students improve and grow in their learning, and the champions who guide our students to become the next generation of history makers.
I am honored to be part of this amazing ISD community. I believe that, as members of ISD, we grow both personally and professionally. We take pride in being part of this community where we support one another to thrive and succeed.
Although this is my first year of teaching in a school, I am eager to grow as an educator and to learn from my students and colleagues every day. I truly enjoy being part of a diverse and international community where curiosity, creativity, and kindness are valued. I aim to create a warm, supportive, and positive atmosphere in the classroom where students feel safe to express themselves and explore new ideas.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading, baking, travelling, and spending time with my friends and family. I am excited to be part of the ISD family and to contribute to the meaningful learning experiences that make this school such a special place.

I have always been interested in social issues, politics, education and the visual arts. That is why I chose a career in sociology. However, I realized quite soon that I wanted to be a teacher. I studied sociology and education at the same time. During my studies I was a teacher in a rural school, teaching disadvantaged and vulnerable children. I am also a member of NGOs that are focusing on the development of rural areas and giving disadvantaged children the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities.
I am currently finishing my PhD studies in sociology and social policy. I am working on a dissertation on well-being, bottom-up decision making and exploring what people define as success, failure and elements of faith. I believe that in every community we have our own definitions of these concepts and I hope to be a good mentor to help students achieve their dreams through the idea of edutainment. I also think that a school like ISD is a place where we can be our best selves academically, socially and emotionally, too.
I got my degrees in Geography and Physical Education in Nyiregyháza followed by an MS degree in Teaching Physical Education in Pécs.
Shortly after graduation, I moved to the UK with my wife. I was fortunate to collaborate with some amazing teachers and professors as a Fitness Manager at the University of Cambridge Fitness Centre. That position allowed me to understand that a healthy and active lifestyle plays a vital role in people’s cognitive and emotional development.
Alongside my Fitness Manager role, I always helped the local gymnastics club around Cambridge which helped me to reflect upon my own teaching practice and to explore different teaching methods.
Following my career in the UK, I returned to Debrecen to teach P.E. in the Hungarian education system. In addition, I am fortunate to work as a Manager at the DVSC Football Academy with children with special educational needs. It is uplifting to work in a professional environment where children can feel safe, be recognized for their hard work, whilst having fun. For me, it is much more than football training because small achievements like smiles on their faces count as exceptional results.

Viktória Vadné Markovics
Physical & Health Education Teacher
Gymnastics has been a defining part of my life since early childhood. Through sport, I learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and discipline, while also discovering that enjoyment is essential for long-term motivation and success. These principles strongly shape my teaching philosophy today.
I earned my degrees in Mathematics and Physical Education in Nyíregyháza, followed by a Master’s degree in Teaching Physical Education in Pécs. After graduating, my husband and I moved to the United Kingdom, where I worked in both competitive and non-competitive gymnastics programs across schools and kindergartens. Over time, I built a strong professional reputation in gymnastics education.
As co-owner and head coach of the City of Cambridge Gymnastics Club, we coordinated weekly training for more than 500 gymnasts, managed and mentored coaching staff, and supported athlete development at all levels. I also collaborated closely with primary school PE teachers in Cambridgeshire to help develop and improve local gymnastics curricula.
My experiences in England reinforced my belief that movement is the foundation of all higher-order learning. Quality movement development plays a crucial role in learning to speak, read, and write, especially during the first seven years of life.
After returning to Debrecen, I spent the past eight years refining my teaching practice within the Hungarian education system at a well-regarded primary and secondary school.
My goal is to guide as many people as possible toward a healthy, active, and mentally balanced lifestyle. I find great joy in seeing my students improve and achieve their goals—this is my greatest motivation as a teacher and the reason I am excited about the opportunity to be part of the ISD community.

I spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week with kids, so my work feels like a second home to me. It is important that this time is happy and fun. I believe in creating a friendly and supportive environment where kids feel comfortable and safe. I love to involve moving and creative activities to help children grow and learn in different ways.
I am always paying attention to the needs of each child. My goal is to make our time together productive and joyful. I want to help kids explore their potential and develop fully while making sure we all enjoy the time we spend together.

with over 25 years of teaching experience in Venezuela, Argentina, Guyana, Brazil, and
Hungary. I believe that children learn best when they feel safe, loved, and free to explore their
natural curiosity. My teaching is rooted in the IB PYP and concept-based learning, with a
student-centered, inquiry-based approach that supports literacy and social-emotional growth.
Literacy and multilingualism are my passions, as I am a language learner myself. I see each
child as capable, unique, and full of potential, and I feel grateful to be part of their learning
journey. Collaboration and reflection inspire me to keep growing and learning alongside my
students and colleagues. Every day in the classroom reminds me how joyful and meaningful
teaching can be. My greatest hope is to nurture a sense of belonging, kindness, and wonder in
every learner.

As a self-proclaimed "country boy," I take great pleasure in immersing myself in the great outdoors through activities like biking, hiking, running, walking, swimming, canoeing, and simply basking in the beauty of nature. An ardent reader, I have a quirky habit of indulging in books even while on the move - you'll often find me reading while walking, no matter where I am. Additionally, I have a deep-seated passion for exploring new destinations, embracing diverse cultures and traditions, and marveling at historic sites and ruins. These adventures and encounters continually ignite my curiosity, prompting me to delve deeper into the rich tapestry of people, places, and histories that I encounter on my travels.
It is this insatiable curiosity, fueled by reading, learning, experiencing, and traveling, that leads me to deeply value the IB/PYP approach to teaching and learning. In the words of Albert Einstein, "The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know." I am genuinely thrilled to be a part of the ISD family, where I look forward to sharing my knowledge, learning from others, and growing together as a community.
