On September 14, 2024, the International School of Debrecen proudly hosted its first TEDxISD Youth event, a remarkable milestone organized entirely by our dedicated Grade 12 students as part of their curriculum. This independently organized event showcased the students’ commitment to fostering a global conversation around the theme “Existing Together,” embodying TED’s mission of sharing ideas worth spreading.

The event featured inspiring speeches from three talented participants: Semih Ersöz, founder of Sopu Academy talking about “The Art of Winning Together”, Dóra Bereczki, ISD student holding an inspirational speech titled “Breaking Barriers: Paving the Way for Women in Sports” and finally Somin Jung, an AISB student, starting a reflection on the theme “Harmony in Isolation: The Musical Journey to Individuality and Community”.

Before each speaker’s performance the audience was engaged with thought-provoking questions and interactive activities, encouraging attendees to reflect on their roles in creating a more inclusive society.

Semih Ersöz emphasized the importance of negotiation skills in daily life, illustrating how empathy and understanding can lead to mutually beneficial solutions. Dóra Bereczki highlighted the barriers women face in sports, advocating for greater recognition and support for female athletes. Somin Jung shared her musical journey, illustrating how individual contributions create harmony within communities.

This event not only celebrated the students’ hard work and creativity but also marked a significant achievement for our school, reinforcing our commitment to student-led initiatives and global awareness. The TEDxISD Youth event stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the potential of our students to inspire change. We look forward to many more events that promote curiosity, skepticism, action, and collaboration in our community.
