Exciting Economics Exploration at the ISD

By 2024.06.19.No Comments

Our Grade 4 students have just completed an engaging unit of inquiry on “How We Organize Ourselves.” This unit allowed our young learners to dive into the fascinating world of economics and trade. Production, exchange, and consumption of goods and services – through a series of hands-on inquiries, our students explored key economic concepts in a way that was easy for them to understand.

For example, they investigated the role of supply and demand, learning how these factors influence the prices, production, and availability of different products. They also explored the distribution of goods globally, and how this impacts the environment. Another important focus was the business: a guest speaker from Middle School, our Business teacher, held a class about marketing, designing an advertisement and how to efficiently sell goods.

The highlight of the unit was when our Grade 4 students organized a market for the entire ISD community. This hands-on activity gave them the chance to apply their knowledge of supply and demand, distribution, and consumer responsibility in a real-world setting. Grade 2 students, who also learned about money, had a chance to use their knowledge to help set up the tables, sell the goods, and use their math skills to give back change.

All the profits raised will go towards creating an outdoor learning space here at ISD.

Throughout the unit they’ve gained valuable skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application. These are the kinds of skills that will serve them well, not only in their future academic pursuits, but in their lives as responsible global citizens.

 Well done Grade 4 students!
