Biography

Beth Hunt – PYP Lead Teacher

My name is Beth Hunt and I am so grateful to be joining the team at the International School of Debrecen. I have been living in Budapest for 2 years teaching at an international school and I have come to love this country. I look forward to leaving the big city behind for a smaller, calmer, city experience. Children have always been a very important part of my life and I knew that my life’s goal was to become a teacher. It was a very easy decision to major in Elementary Education in College and begin my journey of helping to shape young lives.

I became involved with Special Olympics as a volunteer when I was in High School and was fortunate to gain an internship with Special Olympics International at their Headquarters in Washington DC when I was in college. Special Education became a special focus of my learning and I went on to get a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction straight from undergraduate. The highlight of my special education teaching was starting an inclusive early childhood classroom at a public school in Seattle, WA. For me bringing together typical developing children with those that have disabilities is the root of what education is, teaching children that we are all the same.

During my 20 years in teaching, I have learned a lot about myself as an educator, how children learn and the world around us. I have been fortunate to teach American Curriculum, British Curriculum, and learn a bit of Chinese, Arabic, Czech and Hungarian along the way. For the past 7 years I have been an international educator teaching in Taiwan, Morocco, Czech Republic and Hungary. My views and philosophy on education has changed over the years and with each country that I have lived in but one thing remains the same, our job is to teach children to learn how to learn. It is this mantra that gets me excited about working within the IB Primary Years Programme.

Learning, play, and character development are at the heart of early childhood learning. It is my goal that children will come to school loving to learn, experience, play, explore, and begin to develop into little people and find their voice.

Character development is a very important aspect of learning in my classroom. Learning respect for peers, other students, and those that may be different from us will be at the center of learning. As we are an international school, each and every culture of students will be recognized and celebrated, so that students can learn about and understand the world around them.

Communication and parent interaction is a huge aspect of a successful school. I believe in an open-door policy with my parents and fellow teacher’s, we will all work together to ensure the best education for children. I believe that a school should be a community and a family and I look forward to welcoming you all in.

I am very excited to begin this journey at International School of Debrecen with all of you. Our love of learning, children, passion for what we do, and innovation will help to make this school a leader in international education.
